Feast of St Alban (London Eucharistic Octave 2026)

5 June @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm BST

A Solemn Mass will be sung for the Feast of Saint Alban, Martyr, on Friday 5 June at 6.30pm at our neighbouring parish of Corpus Christi, Maiden Lane (WC2E 7NB).

Saint Alban, honoured as the protomartyr of Britain, gave his life for Christ during the Roman persecution at Verulamium. Having sheltered a Christian priest and been converted to the faith, Alban willingly suffered martyrdom in the place of his guest, bearing witness to Christ with courage and steadfast devotion. On this feast the Church in England gives thanks for his example and prays for grace faithfully to confess the faith once delivered to the saints.

The Mass forms a part of the wider London Eucharistic Octave 2026 programme – a week of liturgies and devotions centred on the Blessed Sacrament, culminating in the annual Corpus Christi Procession through central London.

All the faithful are warmly invited to assist at this Solemn Mass, said according to Divine Worship: The Missal (Ordinariate Use).

Celebrant and Preacher: Rev. Fr Mark Elliott Smith, Rector of Our Lady of the Assumption & St Gregory, Warwick Street

Music list:
Setting: Charles Stanford – Communion Service in C
Anthem: Herbert Howells – O pray for the peace of Jersualem

O ETERNAL Father, who, when the Gospel of Christ first came to England, didst gloriously confirm the faith of Alban by making him the first to win the martyr’s crown: grant that, assisted by his prayers and following his example in the fellowship of the Saints, we may worship thee, the living God, and faithfully witness to Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord; who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
