Second Sunday in Lent
A Solemn Mass will be sung for the Second Sunday in Lent on Sunday 1 March at 10:30am.
As our Lenten pilgrimage continues, the Church sets before us the truth of our human frailty and our utter reliance upon God’s sustaining grace. Defended outwardly in body and inwardly in soul, we are taught to trust not in our own strength, but in the mercy and protection of Almighty God.
All the faithful are warmly invited to assist at this Solemn Mass, said according to Divine Worship: The Missal (Ordinariate Use).
Music list:
Plainsong: Attende Domine; Asperges me, Domine
Setting: William Byrd – Mass for Four Voices
Psalm: 83
Creed: Shaw
Anthem: S. S. Wesley – Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace
Hymns:
Hear us, O Lord, have mercy upon us (NEH, 507)
My faith looks up to thee (NEH, 72)
Jesu, grant me this, I pray (NEH, 382)
Collect:
ALMIGHTY God, who seest that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves: keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
